Derric Bakker, M.B.A.
Derric Bakker comes from a family with a tradition of service. Beginning his career in banking and real estate, Derric was instilled with his own sense of calling towards ministry when he accompanied his critically ill father on an emergency evacuation back from the mission field in West Africa. Not long after his father passed away, “God came knocking” when Derric was contacted by an attorney friend who was chairing a Search Committee seeking an Executive Director for a start-up Foundation. It soon became apparent that this was a strong fit for his unique set of gifts and so began a career in major gift fund-raising. Since that time Derric has worked with dozens of non-profit organizations, helping to raise well over a hundred million dollars for ministries across the United States, Canada, and overseas.
Derric offers clients more than 25 years of major gift development experience. He has successfully solicited countless major gifts, including many million-dollar gifts and some in excess of $10 million. He has worked with organizations large and small, Christian and secular, spanning a variety of fields of interest.
If you ask him he’ll tell you there are two things he enjoys the most about his work. First, it’s the opportunity to get to work with so many incredible people, whether ministry leaders who have devoted their lives to service or business people who have chosen to invest their gains into something of even greater significance. Second, it’s the challenges and rewards of being at the forefront of opportunities to grow and expand ministry in new and creative ways that really keeps his blood flowing.
After working for more than ten years as a successful practitioner of major giving, Derric segued into consulting in 2001. He worked as Vice President with two other firms specializing in capital campaigns and major gift fundraising before founding his own firm, Keystone Consulting Services LLC, in 2010. In 2012 Derric merged his firm with Dickerson & Associates Inc. to form DickersonBakker.
Derric received his undergraduate degree from Calvin College and his MBA from Michigan State University. His wife Mary Nel is a physician and together they have three mostly-grown children and reside in Asheville NC.
