Senior Development Consultant
Rev. Dr. Kurt Appel was born in New Orleans, LA where he lived until moving to the Mississippi Gulf Coast in 1990. Prior to entering the ministry, Dr. Appel was an engineer with Sharp Electric, Inc., a family-owned commercial and industrial electrical contractor. He completed his undergraduate work in Mechanical Engineering at Louisiana Tech University, earned a Master of Divinity degree from Perkins School of Theology at Southern Methodist University, and received his Doctor of Ministry degree from Columbia Theological Seminary.
As an ordained elder in the United Methodist Church, Kurt has spent over two decades in full-time ministry serving large and small membership churches in the Mississippi Conference. In addition to his ministry in the local church, Kurt has also been under extension ministry appointment for the last 18 years as a stewardship consultant. With his background in church development and experience in the local church, his ministry is focused on helping churches become disciple-making congregations.
Kurt and his wife Claudia have been married for 35 years and they have three adult children. Their oldest, Meg, lives in Austin with her husband, John, and son, Miller, and they are currently expecting their second child. Kurt and Claudia’s other daughter, Olivia, live in New Orleans and their son, Blake, recently moved to Jacksonville.
Kurt is an avid New Orleans Saints fan, loves to read books by James Lee Burke when he has time, is an avid golfer with a high handicap, and enjoys getting off the grid and spending time at his place on the Chinquapin Canal in Maurepas, LA.
