Background
Museum of the Bible (MOTB) is a nonprofit museum located just blocks from the U.S. Capital in Washington D.C. Opened in 2017, the museum was founded through the efforts of the Green Family, whose members include the founders and leadership of Hobby Lobby, with a mission to invite all people to engage with the transformative power of the Bible.
The approximately 430,000-square-foot museum presents the Bible through a combination of historical artifacts, immersive exhibits, scholarly research, digital technology, and educational programming. Its galleries explore the history, narrative, and impact of the Bible, including its influence on art, literature, music, culture, government, and society.
Rather than functioning as a church or representing a single Christian denomination, Museum of the Bible is designed as a broad cultural and educational institution serving visitors from diverse religious and nonreligious backgrounds. Its location in the nation’s capital gives it a distinctive platform for exploring one of the world’s most influential texts and its continuing role in global history and culture.

Vision
Today, Museum of the Bible seeks to serve as international destination for biblical education, scholarship, preservation, and engagement – helping current and future generations encounter the Bible experience its story and engage with its enduring impact.
Moving from a model of Partner-Family supplemented annually and admissions ticket sales to revenue streams and an endowed fund supplement required strategic planning and a campaign feasibility study.

Challenges
Since the Museum’s inception in 2017, the Green Family has helped the fundraising operations with a matching gift initiative of $10 Million annually. To sustainably cover this annual augmentation to the budget made by the Partner-Family, MOTB would have to raise an additional $150 Million to move the current endowment from $100 Million to $250 Million, producing approximately $10 Million in interest earnings toward the spending policy of 4%.
The Plan
MOTB selected DickersonBakker to do conduct a Campaign Feasibility Study on their behalf to test interest in volunteer leadership, giving capacity, and passion for endowing the museum. In addition, DickersonBakker would serve as Campaign Counsel for the Endowment Campaign.
The Campaign
DickersonBakker conducted a thorough Campaign Feasibility Study, which found that Museum of the Bible could conduct a 150 Million+ campaign to endow the museum and its operations. The study also found that there were no barring issues and that the museum should engage in launching the campaign as soon as possible.
Outcomes
MOTB is currently in the Nucleus Phase of a $150 Million three-year endowment campaign with DickersonBakker serving as Campaign Counsel.
MOTB has already raised $23 Million just through the volunteer recruitment process.
